I have been expirementing with Listerine mouthwash. I spray it full strength on myself as the bugs just looooooove to bite me. It is working, they don't like it at all. I sprayed it around my deck too, no nasty biting bugs hang around it at all. Tried it on my dogs too, I sprayed it on my hands and then rubbed it all over them, they smell good and the flies are staying off them.
