It is ridiculous that organisations can take it upon themselves to have these policies with nothing other than "public perception" as their reasoning. Grr. Like others have mentioned, normally it is the dogs that 'look' least likely to be aggresive that get let off the hook. I have a dobie and a lab cross (which looks pretty much pure lab). Shadow the lab has a beautiful face, with real puppy dog eyes and looks like butter wouldn't melt. He however, is the dog I would trust least out of my two as he had a bad start to life with his previous owners and has some issues. I know what ticks him off so I can control this - and don't get me wrong he is by no means dangerous. But it makes me laugh when people run over to him with open arms and huge smiles on their faces, but then see Bruce (who is the softest dog i have ever known) and run in the other direction! By allowing such 'public perception' to exist, they are almost re-confirming a trust that people have in the 'soft' breeds which may well get them into a nasty situation one day.
