Wanted to agree with VelmaDobe and add this is not true in my case either.
A female can be very velcro, it is a trait that is part of the breed, not just the ones with a penis.
I own both sexes and I would not say females are more "independent".
Getting a female Dobe would be the best in your situation, you are going with a Dobe, so don't worry, you can't go wrong!
Also, don't feel as if you have to limit your search to only your town or even your state.
