Hi you guys, sorry I haven't been on here yet but I've been verrrry busy with our girl Sasha. I'm fostering her right now and have had the opportunity to see her go from a cowering, shaking wounded mess to a velcro'd snuggle love. She is ripping around the yard, getting potty trained, starting to do a couple of stairs, getting comfortible on leash with a harness (no neck collar, she freaks) and so many steps forward. She is now eating kibble from a bowl where she wouldn't go near it before. She is obviously used to eating crap food off the ground and having to fight for it. I'm working on it and she IS getting better. She responds so well to proper, non-punitive correction...shake-can, firm "come", she learned "leave it" in 4 tries. She's so smart, well, she IS a Dobe ;-) She has come from a very bad place and it's going to be some time before she gets past it. The anxiety issues are huge but so workible. She is on an anti anxiety medication right now, finishing up with antibiotics from the tooth surgery, has a shiny coat now and lets me clean her ears and rub her anywhere. She obviously can still bond, she is very needy of human contact. I have been researching the vision impared dog websites and there's so much good info! Her sight problems are going to cause people to shy away from her but if they understand that the sight isn't her first sense maybe they will be better with it. She uses her big sniffer first, then her ears and then ties in her vision. She gets around just fine. She's sweet, smart, gentle and sucky. She must have a chance with someone who can be dedicated to her and dedicated to giving her the support she needs to live a joyful life. She deserves it after what she's gone through. Thanks to Juljules for finding this little girl in the first place and all the work you're doing. Thanks to Better Life Dog Rescue for paying the vet bills (yikes they are)You all ROCK!!
