Hips

I have learned more about Dobermans on this site than any place else. "They" emphasize health testing before buying a Doberman pup, or any pup for that matter. Some dogs are prown to specific health problems. Hip dysplasia is often a concern with large breeds like the Doberman, and those who breed should always test hips before breeding. Also tested should be cardio, eyes, Von Willebrand's Disease (a bleeding disorder) (vWD), and Hypothyroidism. Most good breeders will check these issues before breeding.

But I would consider that surgery you mentioned. It will be expensive but should correct the hip dysplasia.

Really what I learned here is to carefully select a breeder that is well versed in health testing and breeds to better the breed, not a breeder that is breeding for money. Bottom line, learn here by asking and also do research. It will all come about in time as it did for me and as it will for you.

Sincerely,

Scoob
