My Male Stormy is constantly ripping or cracking his nails. He is a bush crashing dog always running full bore through the jungles of B.C. I just keep a very close eye on them, trim off any jagged pieces and soak his feet in a salt water solution when necessary. So far we have never had to deal with any infected toes.
one of my doberkids tore her nail of, root and all, it healed up just fine on its own.She now has only three nails on one of her back feet.
