Oh boy. Get ready because this will make your brain hurt.

First let's start with the topic of registration. The AKC is the official FCI recognized registration body. Any dobe in teh U.S. needs to be AKC registered for the papers to have any official meaning. The DPCA is the breed club under the AKC. They breed to the AKC standard.

The UDC is the working dobermann club, and is under the AWDF (American Working Dog Federation), and was a direct result of the AKC and the DPCA taking an official stand against schutzhund and bitework. The UDC actively supports schutzhund and the FCI standard. The UDC does have a registry, but it used for tracking health, titles, etc. and holds no "official" merit. Dogs registered with the UDC are also AKC registered. UDC working titles are officially recognized by the FCI. I'm not so sure about how the conformation titles work, but I think those are officially recognized also.

I'm not sure about the ADA. I know they are an FCI rcognized org., and support the FCI standard, but I don't have any direct involvement with them so can not comment.

The main difference between the different breed clubs is pretty much their focus and what they feel is important to preserving the dobermann as a breed. I think the ADA is pretty much in line with the UDC philosophy wise, but again, I don't know for certain.

Regardless of club affiliation, the only valid registration in the U.S. is the AKC registration, so it is perfectly legitimate to breed dogs between two organizations from a registration standpoint. That being said, I don't know that it happens all that much because the focus is so polarized to opposite ends of the spectrum (the ever-present working vs. show, am. vs euro, akc vs fci standard, etc. etc.)

Personally I think the "breed politics" in this country is insane, but that's just my opinion and doesn't have any bearing on the original question. Hopefully that helped some (now I'm sure you're ready for an asprin, so I'll hush up).
