I don't know about Canada, but here in the U.S. I have heard of several people this has happened to over the years, and the people who had the determination to follow through resolved it through the U.S. postal service, because if a person receives money through the mail and does not deliver goods that were paid for in said manner, that is mail fraud.

My gut feeling is that your outlook is not good, but I would definitely research what your options are from a legal standpoint and pursue those options vigoroously. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate series of events, and I wish you the best.

Edit: I have to agree with Rosamburg. If someone did that to me, I would be the bane of their existence, and everyone who would listen would know who those ppl are. Who are they btw ?
