Hi - We always either boiled the big knuckle bones a bit, to get a nice broth out of them for "later" - the dogs like the soup, or baked them in the oven at about 200 or 225 for an hour or so. Just to be sure there wasn't anything funky on/in them. Also, sometimes the supermarket has the big femur (leg) bones, and we have them hack them into 3 or 4 sections. They do like the marrow, and it's good for them - you could scoop it out and freeze it for when he can have it. And our dogs aren't truly fond of raw... they think they're people.
