| Well, as it turns out the neurologist is sure it's Wobblers, even though it's a mild case at the moment. I have spoken with the rescue, and we have decided it's in the best interest of Cirrus to find him a better home than what we can provide. We just can't provide him the long-term support, since it will require that he remain off stairs for the rest of his life. Our home has 3 flights of stairs, and to get to the fenced yard he will need to climb down the steep deck steps...
It sounds horrible to say, but this is really not what we signed up for. I was looking for a sound, healthy companion for the next several years. We are just not the right home for him. I didn't plan on taking on a Wobbler's case within a day of getting him. This Saturday, we are taking him back to the rescue. He needs a home without stairs and someone to sleep with, and someone to stay home with during the day.
I don't want to seem like I'm giving up on him, but if I had him from puppyhood, had 5 good, healthy, active years with him and then find this out, that's different. I was looking for a healthy Dobie to go on long walks and jogs. It's a shame, since Cirrus met the other half of my needs, which is a friendly, loving dog. |
