I am asking because I currently use lots of verbal praise and limited leash corrections, but I'd like to incorporate treats using a variable ratio to make it more fun for Lukas. He doesn't really look like he is having too much fun during training so I am hoping using occasional treats will help motivate him more.

Use the treats consistantly until the behavior is solid, then reduce frequency and value of the treats until you become a 'slot machine' giving only occasionally.
